B.E.T.T KwaZulu-Natal – January 2012

The first KwaZulu-Natal  2012 event took place on January  28 and saw  78 teams wind their way down The Valley of 1000 Hills to Inanda Dam. An early start that  capitalised on the summer sunrise gave anglers an extra two hours to fish. However, as with every tale there is a twist. The KwaZulu-Natal divisional competition had been held only the  week before, so would the heightened pressure inflicted on the fish affect the competition's success? Nevertheless most teams were optimistic and happy to be back on the water and buoyed by respectable divisional results.

Competitors began fishing the dirty river water of the river and by midmorning, most had their five- fish limits – but few could boast any Inanda piggies. The sad truth was most teams had sited these monsters while fishing the cleaner water, but the elusive fish ignored any baits presented.

Hence, small fish it was to be - and the title for smallest bass caught undoubtedly went to Kelvin.

That having been said, there was one monster that made an appearance,  just unfortunately the wrong species. Lionel Crow landed a whopping 15kg Carp, topping  Lionel's personal best for that species.

As with every event it has its ups and down – there where those teams that complain of poor fishing and the few team who arrive on the banks and met with big smiles. Last week's divisional Inanda Dam victor was one such angler. Fishing solo and repeating the productive technique used for the divisional event, Harold Roberts of Team Raptor reserved top spot two weeks in running with his 6.54 kg five-fish presentation.

There was 98grams difference for second place taken by Team McCrystal Insurance followed by
Team Redman Engineering in third.
